Our end of August update focuses on a variety of Beacon and account related updates we’ve made. Check out the full update below and reach out to us via Freshdesk if you have any questions or feedback. You can also check out past Lede platform updates.
Beacon Related
- Traffic identified as originating from a bot or spider is now removed from reports by default. You can turn this traffic on using the filter button in the sidebar.
- On some reports, you can select to segment the data shown by user type (currently supports logged-in and logged-out; future support for paid user tiers is planned) or by device type. New reports for page views, sessions, and unique users were added under the default engagement report that support these options.
- You can now choose to view data in time-series charts by hour, day, week, or month.
- The author, article, and category views now contain links that filter engagement reports by the data type selected. So if you want to see how a particular category is performing, you can click “Categories” and then select the category you want to learn more about.
Payment Related
- Users in a past due state (i.e. who have an expired credit card on file), are now notified on site that they need to update their credit card to keep their subscription active. This will helpfully reduce accidental churn that may occur when users don’t update their credit cards as needed.
UX/General Improvements
- Updates to non-dismissible paywalls and registration walls:
Non-dismissible walls are no-longer fixed to the bottom of the screen. Users encounter it as they scroll.
No content displays below non-dismissible walls so users can no longer view comments after hitting the paywall or registration wall.
The last previewed block fades out to better show that content has been truncated.
The height of all walls have been decreased there is now a brief delay to the appearance of the dismissible wall.
Preview block update:
“Supportive blocks”, including spacer, separator, ad unit, and newsletter blocks, are now excluded from your Blocks to Preview count. For example, if Blocks to Preview is set to three and the first four blocks in an article are paragraph, paragraph, separator, and heading, all four of those blocks will display in the article preview above the content gate. As a reminder, you can adjust your blocks to preview settings in the WordPress dashboard at any time.
