Lede Platform Update: End of July 2023

Our end of July update focuses on additional refinements to your registration wall & paywall options. Check out the full update below and reach out to us via Freshdesk if you have any questions or feedback. You can also check out past Lede platform updates.

SPOTLIGHT: Streamlined Registration Wall Experience

The registration wall which anonymous users encounter has been adjusted to primarily direct new user registrations.

  • A new “Log In” option is presented to users as a banner at the top of the registration wall for existing users.
  • The “Submit” button now says, “Register”.
  • The registration flow which originates from the registration wall now remains within the wall itself, rather than redirecting the user to a separate page. Users now create their account, opt into newsletter updates, and receive confirmation directly in the wall before being directed to verify their email.
  • Note: If an existing user attempts to go through the Register flow, they will be directed to the log in flow which still takes place outside of the wall.

Additional Registration & Paywall Improvements/Customizations

  • The messaging which displays on both the registration wall and the paywall can now be adjusted to better fit your brand and your user base.
  • Resend verification buttons were added to the end of the registration flow and to the registration wall for unverified users to ensure they are clearly presented with their next step for accessing the site in case they don’t immediately see or receive their initial verification email.
  • The password field in the Log In flow and on the My Account page now has a toggle visibility option to help prevent user error when logging in and changing passwords.

Custom Embed Block

  • A new embed option was added specifically for interactives with script tags, such as from Tableau, that cannot be uploaded using other embeds.

Login/Authentication

  • Implemented local storage as a method of replacing large amounts of user data that had previously been stored exclusively in browser cookies.
  • Note: We are aware of an uptick in end user reports of being persistently logged out of Lede platform sites. Many of these reports are specific to iPhone/Safari users, but are not limited to this device combination. We are actively working on this and appreciate your patience as we work to resolve this issue for your users.

WordPress Admin UX Cleanup

  • Vertical tabs were added to better organize the various settings on two Lede-related pages:
    • Lede > Brand Appearance
    • Lede > Settings
  • Lede > Brand Appearance
  • Lede > Settings

Bug Fixes

  • Known Issues – Lede v2 is currently under regular development. This is a list of known issues and limitations of the platform, as of 8/2/23. If you encounter an issue not on the list, including any issues with individual subscribers, please contact us via Freshdesk.
  • For Ad Campaigns, if the CTA field is not filled out, the associated arrow which links to nowhere no longer displays.
  • Removed a limited pathway that allowed anonymous users to bypass the paywall.
  • Ensured the current state of subscribed users was being properly stored. Some user state information was being dropped which may have caused some subscribed users to experience the site as if they were anonymous users depending on the sequences they undertook (the Subscribe button may have reappeared or their saved credit card would not be displayed when making a donation).
